Tabcorp needed to scale software delivery fast — without compromising on quality or disrupting high-performing internal teams. Pragmateam grew from a coaching engagement into a full delivery partner, ultimately establishing an offshore team embedded directly into Tabcorp's tribes.
About Tabcorp
Pragmateam had an existing relationship with Tabcorp Digital, initially engaged to improve agile delivery practices. Through this work, the team built the trust that enabled a much broader partnership over time.
The challenge
Tabcorp needed to deliver more software in less time at higher quality, but there was no time to grow a wholly internal team. The high standards of their engineering teams meant that scaling with just any external vendor was not an option. They needed a partner who matched their quality bar, understood the organisational dynamics of bringing in externals, and could eventually extend that same standard offshore.
Our Approach
Pragmateam improved portfolio and program governance, facilitated the scoping, shaping and planning of a major program, and then managed its first phase — helping formalise a software delivery model with clearly defined metrics, processes and accountability.
Working alongside technology and product teams, we added much-needed delivery capacity, provided upskilling, drove continuous improvement in ways of working, and later established an end-to-end offshore team that was fully embedded into Tabcorp's tribes and teams.
We also ran an Innovation Day with the offshore team, where three teams pitched ideas for Tabcorp's biggest annual event. The winning idea — drawn from gaming — was planned and delivered, going live in production within weeks.
