Accelerating Delivery with Tabcorp
Scenario
Tabcorp is a world-class wagering entertainment group employing over 5,000 people who operate three market leading businesses: Lotteries and Keno, Wagering and Media, and Gaming Services. As a result of a new major initiative, Tabcorp Digital needed to improve and rapidly scale software delivery to meet a key deadline.
Initial context
Pragmateam had an existing relationship with Tabcorp Digital having been initially engaged to improve agile delivery practices. Through this work Pragmateam interacted with people from across the organisation including technology, product and marketing.
Key problems
Tabcorp needed to deliver more software in less time at higher quality but there was no time to grow a wholly internal team. The high level of software engineering and high standards of the internal delivery teams meant compromising quality by scaling with any external vendors was not an option.
So Tabcorp needed to find an external delivery partner who had the same quality standards, understood what the change of bringing in externals meant to staff and had the empathy to work through that, giving them scale locally in Australia but with an option to expand offshore with the same standards to provide the size and flexibility required.
What we did
Pragmateam helped improve the portfolio and program governance in support of scale, facilitated the scoping, shaping and planning of the major program and then managed the first phase of it, setting up a software delivery model with clearly defined metrics, processes and accountability across the program of work.
Working alongside technology and product teams, Pragmateam established a delivery team that added much needed capacity, worked with the various other teams, provided upskilling when needed, drove for continuously improving the ways of working and then later established an end-to-end offshore team in Brazil that was considered part of Tabcorp's tribes and teams.
